I think the Del Sol is a fun looking little thing. A few years ago during a snowstorm one joined me in some spirited snow driving on a parking lot route I made. He was cool.

This morning’s Del Sol was just...funny.

Got off the interstate and there’s a stop sign for the state highway merge turning left. Huge line of cars eventually gives way to the Del Sol who guns it in first, red lines and bounces around that for a few seconds as it pops and then lets off to a poof of smoke. Also, this seemed to happen in super slow motion but it was actually just normal speed (slow).

There’s a guy locally who has a black del sol lowered on similar wheels to that picture except gold. It’s turbocharged and very, very clean. I’m very, very jealous of it.

My dad bought one new in 93. He ended up selling it after 130,000 miles, to buy a station wagon for the kids.

This one in question was not very clean.

But I’ve seen one in a similar fashion and I must admit, I liked it a lot.

True story:

My dad drove a 240z while living with my mom in southern California. When he found out I was on the way, he went out one day and came back with a “surprise”. He traded the z for a baby blue Ford Taurus. Like, mid-80's.

Mom: “What the Hell is that?”
Dad: “Our new car for the kid.”
Mom: “And who’s driving it?”
Dad: “I thought you would and I would take your Cougar.”
Mom: “Ha...no way in Hell.”

She never forgave him.

That used to be my least favorite 90s Honda, but if I was to walk into 199X and buy something new now that would definitely make the short list.

Did she ever forgive you?

I always found it kind of weird looking and strange, until I bought one myself (for flipping purposes) and I fell in love, I sold it anyway, but I would buy another one immediately

Kinja'd!!!

The only “mod” it had was half-tinted rear lights, it made it look way younger, every time I see this pic I wish I would have kept it. (the indicators where still very visible even in bright daylight)

It’s a question I’ve asked and yes. Quite easily.

It helps my case that they recently split for reasons outside of vehicular preferences. We were always on the same side, though, because her first car was a Mustang that she still pines for.

Would be strange if they had split for vehicular reasons, sorry to hear that though.
Also: I would take the 240Z over a Mustang any day.

There’s a reasonably clean Salsa Green one cruising around my neighborhood. If if I ever determine if it’s a manual, I’d be tempted to make an offer.

It’s a mess but when things eventually get sorted it’ll be for the better (for us).

I’d absolutely take a Z any day of the week. The rest of the story on my mom’s car is that she cruised the state for junk yards for original parts, pinstriped it and generally babied it. Unfortunately someone stole a car, drove down a 1 way the wrong way and destroyed her car so I think there’s a little nostalgia for her.

I think these will be very cool to today’s young car guys in like 10-15 years. Quirky, very 90s, and probably fun with some kind of swap

That side vent is a huge lol. Hard to respect the owner after that.
